Using DoorStat
------------------------------------------------------------------
Setting up DoorStat
Step 1. Create the .DAT and .CTL files
Begin DoorStat by running DOORSTAT -RESET. This parameter allows
you to create the support files DOORSTAT.DAT and DOORSTAT.CTL.
When reseting the .CTL file you will also be prompted to enter
your BBS name. However you enter it here is the way it will be
displayed in the bulletins the program generates. After
creating the files you will be ready to create the list of doors
that you wish to track. Running this parameter will also allow
you to reset either of these files in the future. I.E. some might
wish to reset the data file at the beginning of each month or week
tracking door usage for only that length of time.
Step 2. Creating your list of doors
Run DOORSTAT -CONFIG. This brings up a simple editor for
inputing, changing, and/or deleting the list of doors that you
wish to track. The file DOORSTAT.CTL must exist in the current
directory for this option to work. Using this option you may
enter/change door names and change the BBS name that you entered
when creating the file. When you type in the name of the door you
must observe the following restrictions in order for the program
to accurately track your door usage.
1. The name of the door that you use with the DOORSTAT -NAME
parameter must match that of the name in the list you create
exactly. The program is case sensitive so,
Know-it-all is not the same as know-it-all
Know it all is not the same as KnowItAll
2. The name of the door can be no more than twenty characters
in length.
3. A maximum of 69 doors may be tracked in this version.
Keeping track of door usage
Inputing tracking data
To keep track of individual door usage run DoorStat with the
-NAME <doorname> parameter. This will store the name of that
particular door in the DOORSTAT.DAT file. The <doorname>
parameter must follow the same restrictions in the list of doors
you created with the -CONFIG parameter. The -name <doorname> must
match the doorname in the list exactly.
You run DoorStat with the -NAME parameter in the batch file that
calls your door.
Example: => exit from bbs to door
:door
doorstat -name door name
cd\door
run_door
cd\bbs
back to bbs
Producing DoorStat bulletins
There are two parameters used to produce the DoorStat bulletins.
These options should be run as often as you want the bulletins to
be updated. If you track only two or three doors then running
these options with every door exit shouldn' t be too much of a
problem, but if you are tracking several doors it can take a few
minutes to run this option and you will probably want to wait
until the user logs off and run it before you bring the BBS back
up. If currency of the data is not a concern a once a day in
your nightly maintenance will do.
1. doorstat -stats <path>
Example: doorstat -stats c:\bbs\txtfiles
When using this parameter do not include a traiing backslash
on the path.
This parameter will produce a tabular data file that lists the
doors and shows a number corresponding to the number of times
that each door has been played since the program was last
reset.
The output file names are:
DOORSTAT.ASC - ASCII file
DOORSTAT.ANS - ANSI file
2. doorstat -graph <path>
Example: doorstat -graph c:\bbs\txtfiles
When using this parameter do not include a traiing backslash
on the path.
This parameter will produce a graph of the data file that lists
the doors and shows a bar graph with length corresponding to
the number of times that each door has been played since the
program was last reset. The output file names are:
DOORGRAF.ASC - ASCII file
DOORGRAF.ANS - ANSI file
